Marie Incontrera on Generation Gab

John Lehr’s Generation Gab podcast

On December 1st, Marie Incontrera, A Very Queer Holiday’s producer and composer, sat down with John Lehr -- a former Geico Caveman who plays Pax’s father in the web series -- for an interview on his intergenerational podcast, Generation Gab.

In A Very Queer Holiday, Pax shares the ins and outs of “enby” culture with their dad, whose love is unconditional but complicated by the generational gap. John, speaking from personal experience, echoes some of the challenges faced by his character.

“It’s hard to switch gears,” says Lehr, speaking as a cis, straight actor in a queer web series. “No matter how liberal you are, no matter how forward-thinking you are, no matter how well-read you are, when you’re put inside [queer] culture itself, it’s, you know, tricky! I loved it. It’s like entering this world… this super-modern, where-we-are-right-now, and it’s not about it. It’s about the relationships. It’s about, you know, what we’re all about. And it’s just seen through this really cool lens.”

“What we really wanted to do, with both [Two Anxious Bisexuals and A Very Queer Holiday] was show that we (queer people) are just as screwed-up as everybody else,” says Marie. “We don’t go around all day being like, ‘Hello, I’m queer! Nice to meet you.’ We’re like everybody else.”
